Now there is so much interest in social enterprise, it is possible that markets will start to get crowded – a common situation in the commercial sector. With charities looking to social enterprise for sustainable income, established social enterprises may now find that they are in competition with their voluntary sector colleagues. Plus, don’t forget the added challenge of commercial businesses looking for profits in the same markets.
The social enterprise sector or, more specifically, social entrepreneurs, now need to start looking at new markets where the social enterprise business model stands a chance of success. And while individual initiative is necessary, this is more a time for joint working and where the much maligned meeting or workshop would be useful to pull some ideas together.
